Dynamic Scheduling Strategy for Real Time Network Monitoring

초록

In SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) network monitoring, agent information needs to be monitored by manager in real time if it varies with time. In this case, polling is generally used. Because polling is a request-response interaction for agent information between manager and agent, manager can query agent information periodically in this technique. Whereas the shortage of polling is that it’s message traffic is heavy, because polling needs one pair of messages for each information at certain time. To reduce message traffic, we proposed the dynamic scheduling strategy. In the proposed method, each agent decides monitoring period about it’s information which based on sampling theory and then sends agent information in decided period without the request of manager, thus manager can gather agent information in real time with reduced traffic. To evaluate the proposed method, we evaluate network traffic of several schemes including proposed method.
