Active Warming during Pre-anesthetic Period Reduces Hypothermia without Delay of Anesthesia in Cardiac Surgery

Intra-operative hypothermia adversely affects hemodynamics and post-operative recovery in cardiac surgical patients. This study evaluated the efficacy of active warming during preanesthetic period on the prevention of intraoperative hypotermia in cardiac surgical patients. The active warming just during pre-anesthetic period reduced the degree of decrease in patient's temperature and development of hypothermia in patients undergoing cardiac surgery without delay of anesthesia. This might be especially useful for the maintenance of body temperature in patients undergoing off-pump coronary bypass graft surgery.
