We consider MIMO systems with self-sustainable intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), where IRS can harvest energy from received power. We characterize the achievable region of rate-energy pairs and propose an alternating optimization algorithm to try to achieve its boundary points. We apply the coordinate descent method to find the optimal reflecting coefficients and provide the closed-form expression to each subproblem. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm archives higher rate than the other algorithms for given required harvested energy. (C) 2021 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B .
