WO3 nanowires were formed oxidized Si substrates via a hydrothermal route. The morphology, crystal structure, and H2 gas sensing properties of the WO3 nanowires functionalized with Pt were investigated. The WO3 nanowires were 50-100 nm in diameter and a few 5-10 micrometers in length. Gas sensors fabricated by using the WO3 nanowires functionalized with Pt showed a reversible response to H2 at room temperature. With Pt- functionalization, it was found that the sensitivity of the hydrogen gas sensor increased from 12.6% to 38.7% at 120 oC and increased 32.1% to 58.3% at 240 oC for a hydrogen concentration of 100 ppm .
