초록

Aliphatic polyesters synthesized from diols and dicarboxylic acids through condensation polymerization have been known to be completely biodegrdable in the environment. Thus, it is one of the most effective packing materials, which can alleviate environmental pollution. The biodegradable polymers developed until now, however, are considerably expensive, and their physical properties and processibility are often inferior to non-biodegradable synthetic polymers. In order to obtain the biodegradability and desired physical properties, either blending or copolymerization technique has been extensively investigated. In this work, we studied poly(butylene succinate)(PBS)/ethylene vinylacetate copolymer(EVA) blends. DSC showed two separated glass transition temperatures of PBS and EVA, indicating that PBS and EVA blends are immiscible from amorphous regions. Nonetheless, a slight shift of melt temperature of PBS indicates the possibility of partial miscibility. PBS blends with 5~20 wt% of EVA content have good Izod impact properties. SEM showed well-dispersed EVA particles in the PBS domain.
