SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF UNIDIRECTIONAL POROUS TiAl-Mn INTERMETALLICS BY REACTIVE SINTERING PROCESS

초록

The unidirectional porous Ti-45at%Al-1.6at%Mn intermetallics were fabricated by using a reactive sintering process, and the microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated. The unidirectional porous intermetallics containing various amounts of porosity were produced by controlling the extrusion conditions of elemental powder mixtures and subsequent reactive sintering conditions of the extruded materials. It was revealed that the porosity of reactively sintered specimen decreases with increasing heating rate during the reactive sintering. And the maximum porosity of 35% was obtained for the specimen reactively sintered with a heating rate of 0.17K/s. The results of compressive test showed that the strength of reactively sintered specimens changes with porosity and test temperature. Details will be discussed.
