A study of Resident Perceptions toward the Cruise-tourism Industry in the Bahamas

The purpose of the present study was to examine residents’ perceptions of cruise-tourism impacts on attitude and perceived Quality of life toward, and support for, cruise tourism in the Bahamas. Approximately 500 potential participants were contacted using an online survey distributed during August 2020. These potential participants were all Bahamians, all over 18, and all living in or close to successful ports of call within the Bahamas. A dataset of 270 useable questionnaires was derived from 283 returned surveys. Multiple regression analysis was then employed in order to examine the proposed conceptual hypotheses. Residents’ perceptions of the positive and negative (economic, environmental, social, and cultural) impacts of cruise tourism were shown partially to affect attitudes toward, support for cruise tourism, and perceived QoL toward cruise tourism
