Building a Sky Silk Road with the Navoi Logistics Hub Project

Central Asia is one of the fast developing regions and the main commodity that is exported from this country is raw materials gas, oil, gold, cotton, fruits and vegetables. Nevertheless these countries seek transition to market economy and become exporters of finished goods. Therefore the transportation network plays very important role in the economic development of Central Asians states. Therefore in order to take early start and gain competitive advantage in logistics industry the government of Uzbekistan decided to establish first Logistics Hub in the region. The short term implications of such venture are to become the transit point for freighters that wants to increase their payload on long-hauls by making technical landings. Middle term is to become Air Cargo Hub. And in long-term implication is to become Multimodal Logistics Hub for Central Asia. Even though there are some constraints that currently threaten the successful development of the project the strategy of exploiting core competences such as geographical position, government support and strategic partnering can overweight the constraints. Apart from the external, internal and material factors that affect the success of the project and can indeed bring it to desired condition. There are also some crucial factors that directly affect the success but often overlooked. These factors are leadership and managerial approach. Another aspect is the human resources and the approach in increasing their quality. The leadership of three leaders of this project has led entities of their supervision to the visible success. Therefore the leadership of the project by these three men can be considered as the positive factor of success. Three leadership styles are aimed on the achieving the success in different ways.
