Transmitting Multiple Levels of Detail of Map for Web GIS

Studies have focused on progressive transmission of raster images over the Web GIS has been successfully applied to provide the user with coarser version of the data before downloading a complete image map. But, very few attempts hane been made a progressive vector transmission fot Web Geograhic Information System(GIS). In Web GIS, there are serious drawbacks of high waiting time and low accessibility because the subsequent query has to wait until all spatial data has been completely transmitted. In addressing these problems, this paper presents a method for automatically generating multiple levels of detail(LOD) of a spatial data, progressively transmitting from Web GIS sever to client. It can reduce waiting time and increase accessibility for Web GIS. Therefore, the proposed method can make a significant contribution in support of Web GIS applications.
