In underwater acoustic (UWA) communication, Doppler frequency is one of dominant parameters to affect BER performance. Unfortunately, all of sudden, UWA channels are varying fast and noise environment are varying. Estimation error degrades BER performance. This paper proposes a robust demodulation scheme to increase BER performance. If an error occurs in the conventional demodulation method, Doppler frequency is precisely estimated and DFE is applied without additional chirp or training sequence. When this scheme is used to UW sensor nodes, energy can be saved. Practical ocean experiments demonstrates that BER performance of the proposed method increases dramatically. For a conventional demodulation of CDMA with Rake receiver shows 0.274 BER, while the proposed scheme attains 0.008 BER.
