Presence of carotid artery plaque is associated with rapid renal function decline in patients with type 2 diabetes and normal baseline renal function

초록

Rapid renal function decline in Korean patients with type 2 diabetes and normal renal function occured in16% during a 5 year period. . Female sex, higher baseline albuminuria, previous history of CVD and hypertension, and the presence of carotid artery plaque independently predicted rapid renal function decline. More careful monitoring of renal function and intensive preventive strategies for patients with these characteristics may be beneficial.
