The Effects of University Taekwondo Coaches’ Autonomy Supportive Coaching Behaviors on Athletes’ Sports Confidence and Perceived Performance

초록

This study examines the effects of autonomy-supportive coaching behaviors of university Taekwondo kyorugi coaches on athletes’ sports confidence and perceived performance to provide foundational data for effective coaching strategies. The study targeted male and female athletes who participated in the 47th Korea University Taekwondo Federation President's Cup, held in Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do, from August 28 to August 31, 2024. A total of 237 responses were collected, with 39 incomplete responses excluded, resulting in 198 valid responses for analysis. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. First, all sub-factors of autonomy-supportive coaching behavior had a significant positive (+) effect on sports confidence. Second, all sub-factors of autonomy-supportive coaching behavior also had a significant positive (+) effect on perceived performance. Third, among the sub-factors of sports confidence, only perseverance and physical preparedness significantly influenced perceived performance. This study empirically confirms the importance of autonomy-supportive coaching behaviors in enhancing the performance of university Taekwondo sparring athletes and highlights the necessity of developing more effective coaching strategies based on these findings.
