A New On-Line Monitoring Device of ZinC Oxide Surge Arresters

This paper presents a new on-line monitoring device of zinc oxide surge arresters using the time-delayed synthesis method. In order to achieve a technique for the effective diagnosis of the deterioration of ZnO surge arresters, the on-line monitoring device using the time-delayed synthesis method in the ageing test and durability evaluation for ZnO arrester blocks was developed. The on-line monitoring device can detect accurately the leakage currents flowing through ZnO surge arresters for power frequency AC applied voltages. As a result, it was known that the proposed leakage current monitoring devices would be useful for predicting the defects and performance deterioration of ZnO surge arresters in power system applications.
