Battery SOC Management Algorithm for PV Ramp Rate Control

초록

Fluctuations of photovoltaic (PV) power caused by passing clouds adversely affect power quality. Thus, ramp rate control with battery energy storage system (BESS) is needed to reduce PV power fluctuations. At the same time, for effective BESS operation, managing state of charge (SOC) is important part. The SOC Management allows SOC to be kept within operation range when implementing renewable integration (RI) algorithm. This paper presents the method to manage SOC while reducing PV output fluctuations. A simulation model is developed in PSCAD/EMTDC software.
