This study focuses on the implementation of the GIFT-COFB lightweight cryptography algorithm to enhance the security of kart telemetry, specifically for the steering angle and throttle position data. The selection of GIFT-COFB was based on its suitability for microcontroller systems such as ESP32. The communication channel utilized MQTT, and a simulation circuit was designed with a potentiometer to obtain data for the mentioned parameters. The ESP32 microcontroller was employed to handle encryption for publishers and decryption for subscribers, leveraging additional libraries such as PubSubClient and WiFi in the Arduino IDE. The evaluation demonstrated that the GIFT-COFB algorithm effectively encrypts and decrypts messages. However, it was observed that the encryption process(631,0667ms) resulted in longer execution times compared to non-encrypted data(12,75ms). Meanwhile, for QoS analysis, without encryption, an average throughput of 42.11Kbit/s, 0% packet loss, 34.95ms time delay, and 34.9095ms delay is obtained which is better than when encrypting with a throughput rate of 18.48Kbit/s. s, 0% packet loss, 108.148ms time delay, and 95.67ms jitter. © 2023 IEEE.
