초록

Exiting acculturation theories fail to define culture and pit two cultures in a linear pole or two-dimensional space. They equate cultures with products of cultures and fail to take incorporate epistemiological, phenomenological, and creative aspects of culture. Existing theories fail to consider personal, proxy, and collective agency and view acculturation as a positivitic phenomena (i.e., as a substractive or additive forms). Existing measures fail to capture the dynamics and complexity of the acculturation process. Leading researchers are outsiders developing artifical theories and methods. Acculturation involves negotiation, skill development and transformations that results in new cultural realties. Acculturation involves transformation of individual lives, interpersonal relationships, and communities
