Cellulose nanofiber(CNF) is a crystalline nanofiber extracted by chemical and mechanical separation of cellulose microfibrils, which constitute plant cell walls. In this work, we prepared aqueous dispersive solution of CNFs using aqueous counter collision method. Based on the CNF solution, nanopapers laminated with CNFs of arbitrary orientation were fabricated through vacuum filtration and hot-press process. The property of nanopapers, such as mechanical, thermal stability and optical properties, were investigated. The fabricated nanopapers exhibit excellent mechanical properties (tensile strength of 120 MPa, elastic modulus of 7.1 GPa) and thermal stability (thermal decomposition temperature of 304°C) due to the high crystallinity of CNF and the hydrogen bonding between CNFs. In terms of optical properties, high transmittance (95% @ 550nm) and optical haze (97% @ 550nm) were observed simultaneously in the visible region. © 2018 The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers.
