Parametric Study of Guide Vanes in Discrete Cavities for Improving Stability of a Centrifugal Compressor

초록

In this study, a concept of discrete cavities with guide vanes(DCGV) is introduced for improving the stability of a centrifugal compressor, and a parametric study of DCGV has been conducted using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with shear stress transport(SST) turbulence model. The stall margin of the centrifugal compressor was used as the performance function, and four geometric parameters associated with the shape of the DCGV(the yaw and pitch angles, the axial length of guide vanes, and the axial location of each cavity) were selected as the parameters. It was found that the guide vanes served to draw the flow in the cavity into the compressor and contributed to an increase in the axial velocity in the compressor.
