Multimedia Kiosk System Based on Web-enabled Geographic Information System

GIS has managed map-based features such as building, road, and waterworks. And now various social areas adopt GIS. As computing environments has been changed for Internet, many researches on establishing geographic information system for WWW are currently being made. some existent GIS doesn't give efficient retrieval mechanism on mutually related heterogeneous information, and focuses their facilities on the presentation of attribute information other than multimedia information. In this paper, we present a multimedia kiosk system, which associates geographic information on multimedia data with other related information through hypermedia mechanism under WWW environment. And we propose multimedia retrieval system based on geographic feature that reduces server loads and the network traffic between client and server, and provides various query-input methods for Internet client user.
