NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF NONLINEAR SPATIAL EVOLUTION OF PROGRESSIVE WAVES USING A NUMERICAL WAVE TANK

In this study, a spatial evolution caused by nonlinear wave-wave interaction was investigated by using Numerical Wave Tank (NWT) technique. The NWT technique was based on boundary element method with potential flow computational domain. For bi-chromatic progressive wave case, linear and fully nonlinear calculation were conducted respectively and the time series of wave elevations were produced at each point in the direction of wave propagation. The fully-nonlinear calculations were well agreed with experimental data and the surface elevation showed the spatial evolution caused by wave-wave interaction. As the wave amplitude increased, wave focusing became stronger.
