MPPT control technique for a PMSG wind generation system by the estimation of the wind speed

Most of the Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) controls for a wind generation system are based on the unknown wind speed. In these methods, a Power Signal Feedback(PSF) method, an optimal Tip Speed Ratio(TSR) method and a Perturbation & Observation(P&O) method are used. However, in this paper, an estimating technique of the wind speed using the efficiency curve of the blade is proposed. By the proposed wind speed estimated approach, the Maximum Power Point(MPP) can be easily calculated and improved. The control methods for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG), a back-to-back converter and the MPPT algorithm are presented, and verified the MPPT algorithm through the simulation results. © 2012 IEEJ Industry Appl Soc.
