Analysis on 3GPP Standards of 5G-NR to support 6G-Non Terrestrial Networks

The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is investigating a study on New Radio (NR) and solutions for NR to support NTN in Release-15 and Release-16 respectively. In this paper, we provide an overview of 3GPP standards of 5G-NR to support 6G-NTN. In this paper, we analyze the link level performance of 5G-NR in terms of bit error rate (BER) under the 3GPP NR-NTN channel model. This analysis aims to examine the impact of flexible Numerologies under 3GPP NR-NTN Propagation channel model such as Tapped Delay Line (TDL) channel model with different RMS delay spread on physical layer of 5G-NR. The simulation results show that high numerology and MCS level with scaled RMS delay spread of 5G-NR can integrate into 6G services to support transonic speed mobility in NTN.
