Development of a General Algorithm for Optimal Operation of Tidal Power Plant

초록

Tidal energy is one of the promising renewable energy resources in Korea. Tidal energy has great advantages over otherrenewable energies because of its high energy density, reliability, and predictability. Tidal energy can be estimated precisely by tideharmonic analysis in advance. Therefore, it is essential to make an optimal operation plan to maximize the power generation of tidalpower plants. The Sihwa lake tidal power plant is the world’s largest tidal power installation with a total power output capacity of 254MW. The power station was constructed in 2011 and has been operating successfully since then. The Sihwa lake tidal power plantdeveloped the K-TOP (Kwater Tidal power Operation Program) to optimize the operation and maximize the output. In this paper,algorithms for ebb generation and double-effect generation were developed to expand the generality of K-TOP. The simulation resultsof K-TOP were verified by comparing it with the operational data of the Sihwa lake tidal power plant.
