초록

(Purpose) This study empirically analyzed how organizational members' public service motivation affects their job engagement in the context of a public organization. In particular, this study focused on how a supervisor's servant leadership moderates the relationship between public service motivation and job engagement based on self-determination theory. (Design/methodology/approach) To test the direct effect of public service motivation on job engagement and the moderating effect of servant leadership, this study used data from the "Changes in Public Service Generation Values and Organizational Innovation" survey collected by the Korea Institute of Public Administration in 2022 for central government employees and used multiple linear regression analysis as the methodological technique. (Findings) The results showed that public service motivation has a positive effect on job engagement, and servant leadership strengthens the positive relationship between public service motivation and job engagement. (Research implications or Originality) The findings of this study deepen the theoretical understanding of the interaction between public service motivation and servant leadership styles in public organizations and provide policy implications for leadership to enhance the influence of public service motivation on job engagement.
