Essential Clinical Skills should be acquried in Undergraduate Medical Schools

The essential clinical skills that students should acquire before graduation were not clearly stated in most of Korean Medical Colleges. This study was first national survey to identify the clinical skills that all students should be expected to demonstrate prior to graduation from undergraduate medical school. A questionnaire contains 51 clinical skill list was developed adapting the various literatures about exit objectives of medical school. The participants were 250 representative faculty from 25 medical colleges, 215 family physician, and 233 public health coctors. 22 Clinical skills were regarded as essential by 70% or more of the participants who responded. Essential clinical skills included basic history taking, physical examinations and 12 technical skills such as venipuncture.
