Desmoplastic fibroma is an extremely rare, benign bone tumor which is approximately 0.1% of all primary bone tumors. It is a nonmetastasizing, but often locally aggressive neoplasm. Typically it affects adolescents and yound adults with no sex predilection. The most characteristic site is in the mental region of the mandible, but the metaphysis of long bones are also frequent sites of involvement. Pain and swelling of the affected area are the most common symptoms. Microscopically, it consists of spindle-shaped fibroblasts within an abundant, dense matrix of collagen. The cellularity varies in different areas of the lesion. We present herein a case of desmoplastic fibroma with focal cystic degeneration involving the proximal metaphysis of right femur in a 56-year-old female.
