Background: Micropapillary variant of urothlial carcinoma (MPC) is a rare variant of urothelial carcinoma (UC) with aggressive behavior and poor prognosis. In this study, we evaluated the prognosis and prognostic markers between MPC and typical high grade UC (HGUC). Methods: Twenty MPC and 136 typical HGUC patients were collected. Clinical parameters (sex, age, recurrence, progress, metastasis, and death) and pathologic parameters (T stage, percentage of MPC) were evaluated. Immunohistochemical study for p53, EGFR and Her2Neu was performed. Results: The recurrence rates were 45% and 39.7%, progress rates were 0% and 5.7%, metastasis rates were 15% and 10.3% in the MPC and HGUC, respectively. All results showed no statistical significance. The survival rates and Tstage showed also no significant difference between two groups. The results of immunohistochemistry were followed the positive rates of Her2Neu were 15% and 19.1%, those of EGFR were 15% and 23.5%, and those of p53 protein were 75% and 72.1% in the MPC and HGUC, respectively. These results also showed no statistical significance. Conclusions: Our results showed no clinicopathological and immunohistochmical differences between the MPC and typical HGUC. Therefore in the HGUC not all UC, there could be no prognostic differences between the MPC and typical HGUC. Key Words: Micropapillary variant, Urothelial carcinoma, High grade, Prognosis 44
