Properties of Modacrylic Fibers Prepared by Poly(acrylonitrile-co-vinylchloride) - Part V: Effect of Polymer Concentration in the Spinning Dope during Wet-spinning

초록

In the wet-spinning process, the viscous polymer solution is extruded through the holes of a spinneret immersed in a coagulation bath. The polymer is solidified by a diffusive interchange between the water in the coagulation bath and the solvent in a spinning dope[1,2]. In the physicochemical process of forming a filament fiber, the precise control of polymer concentration flow rate, and temperature are critical to the ultimate fiber properties and set the stage for the complex transformations from a dope to a fiber[3]. In this study, we focused on the polymer concentration in the spinning dope, and the limits of polymer concentration are determined by polymer solubility and spinning pressure for the wetspinning system. Experiments were performed on polymeric solutions of poly(acrylonitrile-covinylchloride) with various polymer concentration in dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO) solvents to investigate the influence of polymer concentration in the spinning dope during wet-spinning. Poly(acrylonitrile-co-vinylchloride) is prepared by the suspension polymerization with redox catalyst, and the fiber is spun by the wet spinning process with DMSO solvent. As a results, we investigated the relationship between the polymer concentration in the spinning dope and the morphology and physical properties of the fiber, and then determined the optimum polymer concentration.
