Design of Chemical and Electrical Features in Semiconducting Ceramics

The relation between the microstructural and chemical characteristics of the grain boundaries in polycrystalline SrTiO3 and BaTiO3 ceramics, which were prepared from surface-coated semiconducting powders by hot-pressing techniques, was investigated. A systematic variation in the electrical characteristics of the grain boundary with process parameters was observed; it indicates that this synthesis method can be used for fine control over the chemical and electrical properties of the semiconducting ceramics.
