A Qualitative Meta-analysis on the Intercultural Experience of Married Migrant Women Participating in Heritage Language Education

초록

The paper conducts a qualitative meta-analysis to examine marriage migrant women’s intercultural experiences by comparing and analyzing the heritage language education experiences. Through this analysis, the study aimed to elucidate implications for the trajectory of multicultural education from a intercultural perspective. A study covered 18 qualitative studies published in registered journals from 2013 to 2023. As a result of the study, the intercultural experiences were largely divided into two top categories: ‘assimilationism perception and conflict’ and ‘changes in perceptions and attitudes’, and five subcategories were derived: ‘settling Korean life first, avoiding heritage culture,’ ‘friction with family,’ ‘interest in heritage culture and understanding cultural differences,’ ‘smooth communication between families,’ and ‘understanding, respect, and support of heritage culture.’ Following the research results, the importance and practical direction of heritage language education as intercultural education are discussed.
