A Novel Jitter Robust Reference Signal in Ultra Wideband Communication System

Ultra Wideband communication system can perform high data rate communications using nano-second pulses of baseband, and becomes very attractive for high data rate achieved. High sensitivity against timing errors for proper demodulation of the received signal, however, is required. Timing jitters and their properties have been analyzed in some papers but there are not any proper methods been brought forward to resolve this problem. In this paper, we investigated the effect of the timing jitter to the UWB systems and offer a method to resist the effect of timing jitter to the whole systems by adopting a new designed correlator reference signal in UWB receiver. This reference signal is formed corresponding to the timing jitter distribution of the received pulses but not conventional no-jittered received pulses to increase the jitter robust performance. The signal model of this reference signal is offered and the performance improvements in different UWB modulation systems are given. Simulation results show that the scheme we proposed has better jitter robust performance than the one used conventionally in TH UWB systems.
