Computational Multibody Dynamics of Heliogyro Solar Sail under Spin-Deployment

This study proposes the formulation of the dynamics of a Heliogyro solar sail undergoing rigid body motions and multi-blade deployment. The Heliogyro solar sail comprises a rigid central hub and flexible solar blades. The solar radiation pressure (SRP) and gravitational forces are included in the proposed model. The stability and dynamics of the Heliogyro solar sail during spin-deployment are presented through the numerical computation for several cases. It is shown that the stability is lost during spin-deployment if the sun angle inclination deviates from the direct overhead orientation.
