Luminescence Color Control in Complex Organic Crystals

초록

We report a precise approach to take controlling of luminescence color in complex organic crystals. We used two kinds of light-emitting organic materials in order to study controlling of luminescence color. For this research, we selected a green-emitting tris (8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminium (Alq3) molecules and a red-emitting poly (3- hexylthiophene) (P3HT) polymers. The complex organic crystals were fabricated by means of a simple reprecipitation method. The Alq3/P3HT mixed powder solution was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF) with a concentration of 1 mg/ml, vigorously stirred for 10 min, and then rapidly injected in deionized (DI) water at room temperature (RT). The Alq3/P3HT cocrystal wire could be obtained from slow self-assembly growth process at RT. The luminescence colours of complex organic crystals have changed from green to red emission by adjusting the concentration ratio between Alq3 molecules and P3HT polymers.3) The Alq3 only crystals exhibited the green color emission. As the increasing of P3HT polymers, the emission color was gradually red-shifted that result in red luminescence emission due to the effective FRET effect between Alq3 and P3HT. These hybrid organic crystals may be applied to photonic optical communication through multi-color sources.
