Enhancing Mechanical Properties of Thermo-Responsive Shape Memory Polymer Prepared by Epoxy Trimer for Chemically Cross-link

The polymer materials with permanently cross-linked networks cannot be reprocessed and reshaped after synthesized. But crosslinked polymer which contains covalent adaptable networks may exceptively have an ability of re-shapable properties of the polymer. Thermal reversible chemically networks were triggered by heating that were insoluble in solvent because it has a lot of chemically cross-linked point. This thermoset polymer could observe temporally shape memory and recovery by controlling adaptable networks. A lot of cross-link point enhances mechanical properties that could improve recovery properties such as recoverability and rate rapidly. To enhance the strength of mechanical properties, not only epoxy dimer but also trimer was used as crosslinker into the polymer matrix. Depending on the concentration of tri-monomer, glass-transition temperature of shape memory polymer was also changed. The thermal-mechanical properties were carefully investigated by various techniques such as dynamic mechanical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry.
