This research is based on examination of spatial configurations, components, and programs of welfare housings for single-mother’s families. The aim of study is to formulate spatial typology of the welfare residences in reflection of resident types and welfare services. Single-mother family’s welfare housing has been provided to support low-income single-mother households to improve stability of daily lives and preparation of financial independence. Facility types are classified in the regulation, but does not reflect spatial typology. Data based on spatial characteristics of the current facilities is extremely limited in the architectural research. Thereby, detailed research on spatial configurations and components is needed to establish spatial typology of the welfare housing. In this research, samples are selected based on the types in the regulation. Field studies and interview of facility managers are conducted. Spatial configurations, components, and programs are examined from which spatial typology for plan, section, and unit layouts is formulated. Spatial typology is congruent with spatial needs and welfare services in response to the stage of family’s life cycle.
