Performance Evaluation of a Mixed Mode ER Engine Mount via HILS

This paper presents a new type of an ER engine mount which has a mixed mode as working mode. After distilling field-dependent Bingham characteristics of ER fluid, the dynamic model of the engine mount is derived. On the basis of the model an appropriate size of the engine mount which is applicable small-sized passenger vehicles. Performance characteristics for vibration isolation is evaluated and a robust H-infinity controller is designed. The controller is then implemented by incorporating hardwarein-the-loop-simulation. Accleration levels directly indicating vibration property are tested under various engine rotational speeds.
