This study was investigated about the effect of the initial sugar concentration, the salt concentration and C/N ratio in the artificial sea-water media on the grown characteristics of Thraustochytrium aureum (ATCC 34304). The initial sugar concentrations were ranged from 5 to 25g/L and salt concentrations were made by combination of NaCl (0, 10, 12, 18, 24, 48 g/L) and MgSO4 (0, 6, 12, 18, 24 g/L). The highest amount of biomass, lipid and DHA were 0.5617, 0.7744 g/L and 0.3233 g/L, respectively when the initial sugar concentration was 15g/L. However, the yield of biomass decreased according to the increase of the nitrogen source at the initial sugar concentration, 1.5g/L. When the C/N ratio was 2.5, the greatest yield of biomass was 2.5. The salts concentration of NaCl, 18g/L and MgSO4, 18g/L showed the greatest biomass yield, 0.3793. However, the cultivation media that didn't contain concentration of NaCl and MgSO4 was had a greatest effects on the growth characteristics.
