Given the fact that the English Section of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) is based on the High School English Ⅰ-Ⅱ textbooks, we address the question of whether the vocabulary use in actual CSAT English reading parts and the textbooks is consistent across the materials. To this end, we seek to answer this question by relying on measures of lexical sophistication and density and lexical diversity. Chi-square tests on graded word tokens and content vs. function words show that the High School English Ⅰ-Ⅱ textbooks differ significantly not only from each other but also from the 2017 and 2018 CAST English reading parts. This finding suggests that inasmuch as vocabulary is concerned, many High School English I-II textbooks could be inefficient for the preparation of the CSAT English reading test because they provide too many or not enough advanced words to study, despite the fact that as for lexical diversity, the textbooks and the CSAT parts do not seem to differ significantly.
