Variability of Nonlinear Internal Wave Flux from an Array of Pressure-Recording Inverted Echo Sounders in the South China Sea
초록
The nonlinear internal waves (NLIWs) in the South China Sea have been studied vigorously for their generation, evolution, propagation and dissipation. We investigate the feature of NLIWs using an array of 11 Pressurerecording Inverted Echo Sounders (PIES) deployed in the South China Sea during 07/2011?11/2011. The data interval of PIES is 2 or 3 minutes, fine enough to detect the NLIWs. For better understanding of the physical processes involved in the NLIWs, we also performed numerical simulations using nonhydrostatic ocean model (SUNTANS). In this presentation, we will show the energy distribution of NLIWs, their fluxes, and other features estimated from PIES and SUNTANS. We will show a timevarying feature of the NLIW energy flux, which is influenced by the background circulation in the South China Sea.
