Long-term Impact of Metabolic Syndrome Management on Mortality in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation

The metabolic syndrome (MetS) describes an association between diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and dyslipidemia and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.It is well known that MetS is associated with AF. However, it is still unclear whether the degree of Mets management is associated with all-cause mortality in patients with AF. AF patients with poorly controlled Mets had the lowest survival period free of all cause-mortality among the three groups. Aggressive strategies to control metabolic syndrome factors in poorly controlled Mets patients with AF is in need for long-term survival benefit.
