Accurate assessment of mechanical properties is crucial across various engineering applications. Traditional testing methods often necessitate expensive equipment, intricate setups, and physical interaction with specimens, potentially influencing material behavior. Furthermore, prevailing non-contact digital image correlation incurs substantial setup expenses. This research introduces a low-cost, non-contact test technique with a unique image data analysis algorithm to measure mechanical properties. The purpose is to introduce a method that is less costly and effective for calculating unknown material properties. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene materials (ABS) samples were tested with a budget-friendly smartphone camera setup and combined with sophisticated data analysis algorithms. The obtained results underscore the capacity of the current work to efficiently determine the displacement, failure point, strength, and Young's Modulus. The results were verified with experimental data and numerical analysis to establish the method's viability and precision. The method agrees well with existing techniques and experiments, with approximately one percent error for the breakpoint, displacement, strain, and strength calculation, and approximately 10 percent for the modulus calculations. This affordable, non-contact approach can revolutionize material testing by enabling faster, more accessible, and less disruptive assessment of mechanical properties for materials in both research and industrial applications.
