A Structural Optimization Study of Corrugated Bulkheads

초록

A method is proposed for the minimum weight design of corrugated plates subjected to lateral pressure, based on a yield criterion. The method takes into account the effects of longitudinal and local transverse bending moment simultaneously, and also allows the provision of any desired factor of safety against buckling of the compression flange. Tables and curves are given showing the variation of the optimum corrugation profile with length of a panel, the lateral pressure, angle of inclined width of web and the ratio of web length to flange length of trough. The method is illustrated by practical examples.
