Non-Contact Start/Stop Motion Control of HDD Suspension Using Shape Memory Alloy Actuators

This paper presents a new non-contact start/stop HDD mechanism using shape memory alloy actuators. After modifying the conventional HDD, a sliding mode control to track desired profile is designed. The control scheme is experimentally realized and contact signal between the slider and disk surface is measured.
