A Study on Production of Kirtle as the Western Ordinary Costume in the 16th Century by Historical Research

초록

What produces costume by historical research is considered to understand the historical image at that time, to contribute to creating modern fashion design, which has historical compromise as one of design ideas, and further to be able to greatly contribute to study of the performance costume. To revive kirtle, which is the general common women’s costume in the west of the late 16th century, it first considers the pattern of women’s costume shown in Juan De Alcega’s Tailor’s Pattern Book, which was produced in 1589 and decides on a typical style by analyzing the historical materials of pictures. And, it synthesizes the preceding researches on the production by historical research, manufactures the muslin pattern, and revives kirtle as woolen cloth, which had been generally used at that time.
