Decline of broadcast mobile TV and emergence of new mobile TV

Broadcast mobile TV services have been launched commercially in several countries around the world. However, standardization has been a technological huddle to take off the service. In the US, Qualcomm’s Media FLO is the major technology. Japanese broadcast mobile TV standard is ISDB-T which was launched on April 2006. In Europe, European Commission recommended DVB-H as a European single standard in order to compete against other standards. In Korea, TU Media launched satellite DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) service in May 2005, while Terrestrial DMB service on December 2005. However, in the light of delays in the planned launch of services around the world and slower uptake by smaller numbers of users than many predicted, there is increasing skepticism about the hype surrounding broadcast mobile TV. This research addresses which direction mobile TV evolves. First, why has broadcast mobile TV closed down? Second, how does mobile TV evolve? This study deals with the effect of convergence of mobile phones and multimedia.
