This study was to investigate the nutrient intake, dietary behavior, weight control and iron deficiency of adolescent girls. The subjects were 724 female students in urban and rural living in Inchon region. The survey was conducted by questionnaires and data were analyzed by SAS program Nutrient intakes were analyzed by the Computer Aided Nutritional analysis program(CAN-pro). Fasting blood samples were obtained and analyzed for iron nutritional status. The following anthropometric measurements were made on all participants : height, weight, body fat(%), skinfold thickness, subscapular skinfold thickness, mid-upper arm circumference and waist-hip circumference. The mean obesity index of high school students belonged to the underweight group respectively. The proportion of obesity group was most high in high school students(vocational) living in urban area. Proportions of skipping meals were most high and the main reanson was lack of time. Lowest mean intake as percentile of RDA were calcium, iron, Vit A, Vit B2. Most of the students were concerned with body image and weight control. Also, they were satisfied with their body size. The dietary behavior of the weight control attemptees was worse than the non-attemptees in middle school students(p<0.01). Prevalence of iron deficiency were most high in high school students living in urban area. In conclusion, this study indicates that unnecessary weight control induces unhealthy dietary behavior and may affect to iron deficiency. A need for implementing nutrition education program focused on weight control and iron status in adolescent girls.
