The response time of MR damper depends on several factors such as concentration of Fe particles and material of magnetic coils. In this work, a new type of MR damper which can produce much faster response time than conventional MR damper is designed and manufactured. After evaluating the time response to achieve the fielddependent damping force, MR damper is installed to the semi-active suspension system. Subsequently, suspension performances such as ride comfort and road holding are investigated as a function of the time response. In this evaluation, a simple, but very effective a skyhook controller is implemented. © ACTUATOR 2018 - 16th International Conference and Exhibition on New Actuators and Drive Systems, Conference Proceedings.
