A Speculation on the Dualism of the Historical Restoration in the City and A Design Proposal for Regeneration of the Border Condition in the Inner City-Stream

This study intends to investigate new border condition on the urban crack formed by the policy of historical restoration. The study intends to point out the problems of restoring the local stream in association with Cheonggyecheon, to disclose the destructive dualism accompanied by the conflict between local residential area and historical restoration, and to explore how to transfer such dualism into a productive paradigm. The main argument is focused on how to maintain the sense of public in the relationship between local programs and the residence that is destroyed and going to be disappeared by the policy of historical restoration. The purpose of the study is accordingly to frame a design strategy to maintain the local context in dominant character, which has been degenerated into recessive urban gene, to suggest disappearing public space in the modern city as a new border condition, and to reconfirm the borders(gap) to be a productive urban space.
