MDTMAC : A Medium Access Control Protocol for Multimedia Data Transmission Service over IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN

The time-bounded multimedia data transmission service is served through Contention Free Period(CFP) over IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). But the delay time of data transmission and the buffer size of stations can decrease the quality of multimedia data transmission service. This paper proposes MDTMAC (Multimedia Data Transmission service MAC) protocol that assigns the channel period in CFP and manages the polling lists of Access Point (AP) on Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. Decreasing the delay time of data transmission and the buffer size of stations can improve the quality of multimedia data transmission service. We confirm the decrease of 6% in the average transmission delay time of each station and of 34% in the average buffer size of each station on multimedia data transmission service from the result of the MDTMAC simulation.
