Thermodynamic performance analysis of the IG-SOFC/GT power generation system based on IGCC system

IG-SOFC/GT (Integrated Gasification Solid Oxide Fuel Cell / Gas Turbine) systems are devised and their thermodynamic performances are compared with the IGCC system. First, an IGCC system combining a gasifier block and a power block based on a state-of-the-art gas turbine is analyzed and calculation models are validated. Based on the validated components models, a couple of IG-SOFC/GT system layouts are set up and their performances are predicted. Impact of CO2 capture is investigated in both the IGCC and IG-SOFC/GT systems. Two different capture technologies are compared for the IG-SOFC/GT system: pre-combustion capture and oxy-combustion capture. The analysis result shows that the IG-SOFC/GT systems produce much larger power and higher efficiency than the IGCC system. The efficiency penalty due to CO2 capture is relatively milder in the IG-SOFC/GT system than in the IGCC system. The IG-SOFC/GT with CO2 capture by oxy-combustion technology provides better efficiency than the system with pre-combustion capture technology.
